When it comes to cannabis, acronyms are our friend. THCV, or tetrahydrocannabivarin, is another cannabinoid like THC and CBD. THCV though has its own uniqueness. Like THC it is psychoactive (faster acting and more clear-headed stimulation than THC), but like CBD it doesn’t cause the munchies. In fact THCV suppresses the appetite.
The benefits of THCV don’t end there, but include the promotion of bone growth. This has the potential of another medical use for cannabis: osteoporosis. Research is still ongoing in this, however, and other bone disorder areas; so, keep tuned.
While research is still waiting for definites, more areas are also under investigation involving THCV’s potential: Anti-Inflammatory, diabetes, panic attacks, and Alzheimers. One thing is absolutely for certain, THCV has the scientific community intrigued.
Since THCV is late to the notoriety party, it can be harder to know which strains have it. A good starting place is Landrace African sativas. There is also this suggestion list to keep in mind when at the store.
- Durban Poison: a daytime go to for negating depression, anxiety, pain, and nausea.
- Girl Scout Cookies (GSC): cue euphoria and relaxation.
- Jack the Ripper: a good happy motivator.
- Pineapple Purps: short and fast acting head high.
